Student Programs
Author Visits – We work with the school librarian to bring popular and thought provoking authors to the school.
Cultural Arts – We offer four or five culturally diverse and entertaining performances to the student body throughout the year. Performances vary and have in the past included dancing, singing, art, music, and theater.
Community Engagement – This committee works with the Director of Student Life on promoting cultural awareness to all students in the Hommocks community. Past events have included essay contests, parent dinners, and Career Day.
Eighth Grade Graduation Party – The Graduation committee plans and orchestrates a huge send off for the 8thgraders on a Friday night in June. The students always have a great time! Parents will be notified when tickets go on sale in the spring.
Grade Level Parties – These are Student Council run parties held in the fall and the spring. They feature DJ, games, snacks and all around fun! The PTA helps organize the events and offers help in the form of ticket sales, chaperones, and concession sales. All proceeds support the Student Council activities.
Hommocks Hearts – Volunteers on this committee respond to guidance counselor requests for students in need. Examples of requests are a backpack or sneakers for summer camp.
Hommocks Tours – The PTA provides welcome tours prior to the start of school for students who are new to Hommocks. Current Hommocks students take new students to their lockers and help them get familiar with the building.
Photos – We coordinate with an outside photographer to take photos on Photo Day and Retake Day. Volunteers are needed to help organize the flow of students getting their pictures taken.
School Clubs – We work with the Hommocks administration to finalize the list of clubs offered, meeting times, and coordinates the registration online. There are 2 club sessions (Fall and Spring). Students are given an opportunity to learn about school clubs during the Club Fairs held prior to registration. Click Here for current club information.
Scholarships – We provide students in need scholarships for School Supplies, the Yearbook, and Graduation party tickets.
School supplies – The PTA coordinates with the school administration and faculty to develop a list of school supplies by Grade and Class. We work with Futtermans, a local Larchmont business, to facilitate online sales of supplies. School supplies go on sale late May to the end of June. Supplies are available for pick up or delivery in August.
Student/Parent Directory – As part of your PTA membership, parents will be given free access to the online student/Parent directory.
Variety Show – We sell tickets and concessions to the annual student variety show. Students audition and practice their acts with the help of Hommocks teachers. The event is a wonderful display of Hommocks talent and camaraderie. All proceeds support the Cultural Arts Program.
Yearbook – Starting with the 2021-22 school year, the Hmx Yearbook is now a Student Club! Led by the Director of Student Life, with the help of a Hmx PTA Liaison, the students will have hands-on involvement in creating their school yearbook. The PTA will continue to assist with the contract, selling and distribution of the yearbook.
Parent Programs
Parent Education – Each year the PTA holds lunch and evening programs consisting of guest speakers and panels on hot topics such as social media, anxiety, and study skills.
Principal Coffees – These meetings are held monthly. It is a great opportunity to hear from Hmx Administration and Academic Department Chairs. The PTA helps facilitate parent Q & A during the sessions.
Student/Parent Directory – As part of your PTA membership, parents will be given free access to the online student/Parent directory.
Teacher/Staff Programs
PTA Grants – Teachers, staff, and administrators are asked to submit grant requests in December/January. Each year the Hommocks PTA provides funds to enhance student learning, for projects or materials that might exceed the District budget.
Staff Appreciation – Throughout the year, the PTA partners with the Hmx Sunshine Committee to provide all Staff with tokens of appreciation for all they do for students and their families. Past examples include: breakfast, lunch and snack bags.
