#BetterTogether

#BetterTogether 2018 needs your help!

Beginning February 5th, this week long, interactive program helps students broaden their knowledge, understanding and compassion for people with varied abilities by experiencing what it is like to live with differences.

Parent volunteers are a critical part of the experience, facilitating hands-on classroom based activities.

Here’s what Parents and Teachers are saying about #BetterTogether……

“All the kids enjoyed it and learned from it. The teachers thought it went well also, and we look forward to continuing it in future years!” -3rd Grade Teacher

“Today my daughter came home so very eager to share about the Better Together experience. She learned a lot, wanted to share and talk about what she learned and in my opinion was stretched in the healthiest of ways to think about differences. Paraphrased: She came home with oodles of empathy for those who “work harder” to do the things that come easily to some. She also shared how empathy for their struggles shouldn’t cross into pity; for feeling sorry for someone with a condition such as Down Syndrome wouldn’t make him or her feel good either. It wouldn’t be treating them as an equal. I am so impressed I want in.” -Parent of 4th Grader

“Thank you so much for bringing this extremely valuable program to our school.” -Parent of 3rd Grader

“Yesterday we had a fantastic classroom experience learning about children with hearing impairments. All the parent volunteers helped the children better understand and appreciate children who are deaf/hearing impaired. The kids were still buzzing about it after they left.” -2nd Grade Teacher
