Committee Membership:

Our membership is open to the entire Chatsworth community, to parents of children with and without food allergies, dedicated to our mission.

Our Mission:

To promote a healthy, safe, inclusive, informed and sensitive community for all children, and especially for those living with food allergies.

Join our committee, our e-list, or both:

To join our committee and or to be a part of our e-list simply email  us. Please indicate if you would like to be a part of our committee (and help deliver the services listed below) or if you would prefer to just receive email blasts (information about events at school that involve food.) Ideally, join us for both!

Here’s what we do and how we may support you!

  1. Allergy awareness: We promote education and awareness activities throughout the year and sponsor Allergy Awareness Week!
  2. We publish monthly service announcement to celebrate and promote our community’s awareness and sensitivity to food allergies.
  3. We sponsor an educational booth at the Crunchy Carnival.
  4. We partner with our school’s leadership to promote safety and inclusion for all children in our community.
  5. We strive to be a resource to families by providing liaison information, notifications regarding food related events, and supporting clarity regarding safety protocols at Chatsworth (see below.)
    • Liaison support: One of our goals is to help you be informed and plan for your child’s safe participation in all that Chatsworth offers. To help in this effort, we created a table so that you know how to reach key planners for typical annual school wide events. You can reach out to them to learn more about their food service plans and to collaborate or advocate for your child when needed. Click here to view this table.
    • Safety protocols: clarity regarding school sponsored and non-sponsored events.
      • For all school-sponsored events, such as field trips and before school orchestra, your child’s school emergency action plan will be in place.
      • For all non-school sponsored events, such as PTA after school activities or Tiger Sports, it is each family’s responsibility to explore and arrange for its own safety protocol and access to medication.
      • As activities change from year to year, it is imperative to always check with the administration to determine if your child’s emergency action plan and access to medicine will be in place or not.
      • There are many PTA sponsored events, school-wide or grade level, where food is served. It would be wise for parents to reach out to those organizing each event to gather information or collaborate on planning to support their child’s needs. Most PTA communications list a parent contact/organizer. When that isn’t listed, email April Lewis adl26@hotmail.com or Jackie Shurslep jshurslep@gmail.com.
