BYE BYE BIRDIE
Get ready to “Put on a Happy Face” as we welcome back KJK Productions (Kevin J Kearins, Artistic Director) to Chatsworth for another musical. Under their direction, we will go back to the 50’s and gossip over the telephone about who is “Going Steady” and pledge our love to Conrad Birdie. We encourage every 5th Grader to sign up as this will definitely be a special experience and memory of their time at Chatsworth. Space permitting, 4th Graders and 3rd Graders will be able to participate in the Chorus only.
Please take the time to read the following key details regarding the 2020 musical:
- Registration for 5th graders ONLY will open Monday, January 20th at 8pm and will close Monday, January 27th at 10pm.
- Auditions for 5th grade cast will be Monday, February 3rd from 3:15-5:30 pm (Snow date: February 5th)
- Registration for 4th graders will open on Monday, February 3rd at 8pm and will close on Friday, February 7th at 10pm.
- If spots are still available, registration for 3rd graders will open Monday, February 10 and close Wednesday, February 12 at 10pm.
- Mandatory rehearsals will be held Monday-Friday, March 3– March 12th, 3:15-5:30 pm.
- Performances will be held Friday, March 13th in school, Friday, March 13th at 7pm and Saturday, March 14th at 11am.
There are four categories: Cast, Ensemble, and a very limited number of spots in the Stage Crew and Production Assistant roles.
5th Grade CAST – If your student wants to have a solo speaking or singing role, you should register them for “Cast” so that they can audition. Everyone who registers for cast will audition on Monday, February 3rd starting at 3:15pm. (Snow Date: Wednesday, February 5th) There are approximately 55 solo speaking or singing roles. Please note there are roles for non-singers as well as singers in the musical. Non singers do not have to sing at audition if they prefer not to. Students in speaking roles must be available to perform in ALL SHOWS. Registration cost for the Cast is $260.00.
5th Grade ENSEMBLE – If your child wants to be on stage but not have a solo part or cannot make all performances, register them for “Ensemble”. There is no audition required. Any 5th grader who wants to be in the ensemble will be able to participate. Registration cost for the Ensemble is $125.00.
5th Grade STAGE CREW – If your child wants to be in the stage crew: There are 6 positions available for Stage Crew and this role is only open to 5th graders. Stage Crew must attend the final three days of rehearsal, in addition to ALL shows. The registration cost for Stage Crew is $135.00.
5th Grade PRODUCTION ASSISTANTS – If your child wants to be a Production Assistant: There are 10 positions available for Production Assistant and this role is only open to 5th graders. Production Assistants must attend ALL rehearsals, in addition to ALL shows. The registration cost for Production Assistant is $135.00.
3rd/4th Grade CHORUS – Space permitting, 4th Graders and 3rd Graders will be invited to be in the Chorus only. Chorus must attend the first hour of rehearsals for the first seven days and full rehearsals for the final three days. Registration cost is $125.00. PLEASE NOTE: 4th Grade registration will open on Monday, February 3 at 8pm and close on Friday, February 7 at 10pm. If there are still openings available, registration for 3rd grade chorus will open on Monday, February 10 at 8pm and close Wednesday, February 12 at 10pm.

KJK Productions will make casting decisions. All decisions will be final and casting will be announced by Wednesday, February 12th. Any child who auditions and is not offered a solo part will be invited to be in the 5th Grade Ensemble. If your child chooses to do this, you will be reimbursed for the difference in the cost between the Cast ($260.00) and the Ensemble ($125.00).
IMPORTANT NOTE: The Chatsworth musical is a team effort, and that includes adults. Each family who is involved in the musical is required to assist with at least one shift at rehearsals or performances. A list of roles we will be asking parent volunteers to fill will be communicated in the coming days.
