Author and Harrison Native David Hicks, PhD will read and discuss his children’s book, The Magic Ticket an autobiographical story about the death of his baby sister when he was a boy and his subsequent immersion into the world of books. David, a professor and director of the Wilkes University MFA, will recount his visits to children’s grief camps and how “narrative therapy, ” fictionalizing a autobiographical story of loss or trauma, can bring about healing and understanding in a way that journaling, diary writing, or other forms of nonfiction cannot.
