Healing Grief Presented by Author David Hicks, PhD

Author and Harrison Native David Hicks, PhD will read and discuss his children’s book, The Magic Ticket an autobiographical story about the death of his baby sister when he was a boy and his subsequent immersion into the world of books. David, a professor and director of the Wilkes University MFA, will recount his visits to children’s grief camps and how “narrative therapy, ” fictionalizing a autobiographical story of loss or trauma, can bring about healing and understanding in a way that journaling, diary writing, or other forms of nonfiction cannot. Helpful for adults seeking a way to find meaning in their past losses, and for children who have suffered the loss of a loved one. Appropriate for adults and children age 7 and up accompanied by an adult. Registration is not required.
