How Do Children Learn to Read? An Overview of Stages of Reading Development and MUFSD’s Approach to Instruction, Assessment and Intervention. Have you ever wondered how children learn to read or about what the early reading milestones are and how MUFSD assesses reading benchmarks? Do you want to know more about what interventions are used the the district to help children struggling to meet reading benchmarks? If so, please join us for a discussion lead by our district’s superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, Annie Ward. The program will take place on Thursday, February 15th at 7 p.m. in the Hommocks Middle School Library.
Have you ever wondered how our district matches educational services to a child’s needs? If so please join us on February 27th at 9 a.m. in the Hommocks Library Classroom for a program designed to help parents and caregivers understand the thinking and consideration that go into a child’s special education services. Maria Albano, Hommocks Special Education Chairperson, Lisa Kmetz, Elementary Special Education Coordinator and Mary Alice Pietropaolo and Kerri Fay, Elementary Special Education teachers will lead the program.
The Road to College for Students with IEPs/504s Do not miss this lively panel discussion for parents and students with IEPs/504s planning to attend college. Wednesday, February 28, 7:00pm – MHS Library. This event is co-sponsored by MUFSD and MHS PTSA. Join us if you have ever wondered how to find “good fit” colleges, how to obtain learning accommodations in college and what’s possible in terms of college supports and services. Panel will feature Cathy Quackenbush, Director of MHS Guidance Department and Michelle Burns, an admissions representative from the University of Arizona. Questions?
