Allergy Awareness

We aim to promote a healthy, safe, inclusive, informed and sensitive community for all children, and especially for those living with food allergies.

#Better Together

Kicking off October 1, #BetterTogether is an initiative designed to celebrate our differences and unique abilities. It is an opportunity for us as a community to show our children that we value kindness, empathy and inclusion. This initiative, hand in hand with our Social and Emotional Learning platforms, will be in practice all year long.

Chatsworth Community Outreach Committee

The Chatsworth Community Outreach Committee strives to help our neighbors in need and give Chatsworth students the opportunity to make a difference through meaningful philanthropy and hands-on service events. Volunteers help to coordinate an annual coat drive “CoatsWorth”, toy drive “ToysWorth”, and food drive “FoodsWorth”, and related activities.

Crunchy Carnival

A fun and educational night of food-related learning and games for the whole family.

Fruit Fridays

Once a month the PTA (with the help of parent volunteers) prepares and distributes fresh, seasonal fruit to every student during their lunchtime on Fridays. A fun, healthy end to the week!

Incoming Kindergarten

The Incoming Kindergarten committee helps coordinate Kindergarten Orientation Night for parents, and registration for the screenings of all incoming kindergartners and the classroom visit each Spring.

International Parents

The International Parents group provides support and networking opportunities for Chatsworth’s community of international families. The International Parents group chairs coordinate activities and presentations to be held on Chatsworth’s annual International Day, and they manage (and prepare the fare for) the International Foods Bazaar at the Chatsworth Carnival.

Family Fun Night

The Family Fun Night committee organizes Chatsworth’s annual Bingo night, open to all students and their families.

Garden Initiative/Outdoor Education/Beautification

The Chatsworth garden is located on the school playground.  The goal of this new school-wide initiative is for all Chatsworth classes to experience a part of the gardening process – digging, planting, cultivating, harvesting – while learning about plant life, biodiversity, natural pest control and more.  Volunteers are always welcome – no experience or green thumb required.  Get involved by working on daily maintenance, prepping garden for classroom lessons, and assisting during classroom lessons.

Library Volunteers

Parent volunteers use the computer to check in and check out the books the students are borrowing, help students find and select their books, and re-shelve the books once they are checked back in. We ask volunteers to commit to a regular shift either weekly or approximately every other week, with the schedule organized by the Library Volunteer coordinator, and for those for whom that is too much of a commitment, we also have substitute volunteers who come in as needed.  No experience is necessary, and training is provided.

PASS (Parenting Around Screens & Social Media)

PASS conducts quarterly meetings and events around educating ourselves and sharing information about how to parent around smartphones, video games, iPads, social media, TV and all of the challenges and opportunities they bring.  Events include group discussions led by a Clinical Psychologist, panel discussions, film screenings, and sharing the latest data about the trends in screen time and kids, their effects, and how to best manage them as a family.  Events are communicated in the weekly Chat emails. If you are, or know of, an expert in this area, including psychology, technology, video gaming and social media, we welcome suggestions for future panelists.

Pizza

Every Wednesday, slices of Villa Maria pizza are provided as part of a full pizza lunch, which includes a piece of fresh fruit and an allergy-free packaged snack. Options are available for students with specific dietary needs.  The pizza committee also schedules the rotation of parent volunteers, who come into the cafeterias to serve the lunches to the students. Volunteers for multiple shifts are encouraged and welcomed!

Safety Initiatives/Safe routes to school

Formerly known as Walk To School Week, this committee helps promote the benefits of students walking or bicycling to school. It is a district-wide initiative, held once each semester. The Safe Routes committee distributes prizes to students and classes who participate.

School Tours

Our Chatsworth Tour Guides take prospective new families on a scheduled tour of the building and the school grounds.  Click on “School Tours” for more information and to sign up.

Welcome New Families

The Welcome New Families committee is Chatsworth’s Welcome Wagon, providing parents answers to questions and easing the assimilation into the new school community.

Wellness & Nutrition

The Wellness and Nutrition Committee is dedicated to keeping our school community healthy and happy.  Our goal is to encourage healthy eating, promote physical activity, and support the development of healthy minds in fun and creative ways.  Some of our activities include the annual Halloween candy exchange/collection and teaming up with
nutrition experts to plan our annual “Culinary Night”,  a night of hands-on cooking, sampling delicious recipes, and getting some family “fooducation”.

Our Working Parents group provides a network of support and interactive opportunities for Chatsworth’s many working parents.  Our goal this year is to work to find ways to bring together the principal, teachers, and staff in developing a closer working relationship between the home, school and the parent community.

Yearbook

The Yearbook Committee works throughout the year to gather school photos of every Chatsworth child, collect candid pictures that reflect the Chatsworth experience, and design the pages for publication. They are supported by the Yearbook Sales committee who coordinates the purchase orders from Chatsworth families and works with the outside vendor responsible for printing and delivering the yearbooks.
