They will pick up your gently used, but clean and usable furniture, give you a donation receipt and redistribute the furnishing to peopel referred by area social-service organziations.
There is a two-piece furniture minimum as as a $20 minimum donation at time of pick-up to offset trucking service costs.

Cellular Phones, Ink Cartridges, Laptops & Blackberries -

There are collection boxes located outside the janitors office on the Forest Park side of the school and another located by the Addison St. entrance to collect used cellphone, blackberries, ink cartridges and laptops.  We sent these items to www.thinkrecycle.com and the money goes directly to the Chatsworth School Fund headed by our principal, Gail Boyle.  These funds are used for playground equipment, recess games & equipment and other items the school needs.

Donate your old eyeglasses at drop boxes found at LensCrafters, Pearle Vision, Sears Optical, Target Optical and Sunglass Hut stores.  The nonprofit donates used eyewarte to the underpriviledged.

The Junior League of  Westchester on the Sound takes glassware, bedding, kitchen items, china, working appliances, toys, small furniture etc.  All must be clean, in fashion and in good condition.  They do have some restrictions so call first.

County Recycling Events Schedule
- They also take your old paint & chemicals i.e. pesticides, bug spray etc. 
Household Recycling, E-Waste and Mobile Shredder dates

These recycling events are a free public service intended for residents only.   • Paper recycling in every classroom.
     
  • Earth Day Recycling Quilt - classes participated in making a large quilt from old magazines, newspaper and cereal boxes with themes chosen by students about Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. The final project, coordinated by Chatsworth parent Sue Girardi, was displayed outside the PE department.
     
  • Earth Day/Arbor Day celebration - Native Seedlings, Planting for Knowledge a program sponsored by the NY State Department of Environmental Conservation allowed students and parents to help plant 30 native seedlings around Chatsworth. 
     
  • Weekly Green Tips on various subjects
     
  • Reusable Water Bottle Sale to reduce the amount of water bottles in landfills & educate the Chatsworth community about the value of reusing products.
     
  1. 10 SIMPLE THINGS WE CAN DO THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE:

    1. Use a reusable water bottle
    2. Use a reusable lunchbox & containers
    3. Turn off the light when you leave a room
    4. Use both sides of your paper
    5.  Walk, bike, or carpool to school
    6.  Reuse your shopping bag
    7. Choose products that come with little packaging and buy refills when you can
    8.  Turn off the water when brushing your teeth
    9.  Replace a regular incandescent light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb (cfl)
    10.  Plant a tree.
