FIVE THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN DOING  THE MONET PROJECT
from other volunteers’ feedback in the classroom

The presentation
1.
Shorten the presentation for lower grades.  You do not have to cover all the questions on the back of the posters.
2.
Many parents have been reading aloud “The Magical Garden of Claude Monet” by Laurence Anholt (copies in the art closet) as an introduction or conclusion.

The project
1.
Don’t forget to cut the paper beforehand.
2.
Black paper is also available in the closet.  This can be stuck on the back of the white paper to aid in presentation.  It also encourages the children to work to the edges in order to cover the entire piece of white paper.
3.    Fold the paper after gluing on the black background.  You can fold it like the poster board triptych or you can fold it like you would fold a letter before putting it into an envelope (three equal parts).

Other Tips:

You may want to read a story about Monet to the children or encourage their teachers to do so (e.g. The Magical Garden of Claude Monet by Laurence Anholt). There are 3 copies of this wonderful book in the Art Cabinet.

Here are some other titles to consider:
Who is Claude Monet?
